The Apuan Alps are a geological treasure between the provinces of Lucca and Massa Carrara. These are the marble mountains, where Michelangelo chose the precious material for his masterpieces. These rocky mountains have been populated since the stone age and they are called Alps for the aspect of the peaks, that are vertical and rugged like the Alps of Northern Italy.
The scenaries are wild and powerful but the most incredible thing is the breathtaking landscape. By the top, in front of you, the Mediterranean sea, the islands of the Tuscan archipelago, Corsica and the Ligurian Coast.
The coastline infact is just few kilometres far and this view is what makes “our Alps” simply unique.
To preserve this beauty born in 1979, the Apuan Alps have become part of the Regional Park and since 2011 they have been part of the European and world Geopark.
